Whitman Street, Hayward, California. I drive this street daily on my way to work. Two miles, straight as an arrow, tucked between the BART tracks and the railroad tracks, and limited access. Abandoned cars, contests of speed, lots of apartments. Never a dull trip.

Is that blood on the louvers? Seems appropriate for a Mustang, although I’d expect it on the grill...

The pedestrian managed to avoid the grill so the Mustang initiated snap oversteer attack mode.

No, just a bad paint job.

Given the shape of the window (although not the location), perhaps it got confused and thought it was a P-40 and not a P-51.

Oh, I’ve seen plenty of horrific custom paint jobs at my favorite junkyard, a place where that Mustang is certainly headed. My favorite had to be the early 2000s S-Class in a bright blue that probably matched the owner’s previous Cavalier or Mirage. The chrome stick-on fender vents really added to the appeal. I’m sure it was bought cheap and then disposed of (or impounded) at the first sign of a CEL and the thought of a repair bill in the mid to high three-figure range.

I think it realizes it’s a P-51, but it is jealous of the P-40s massive bystander devouring intake location.

Can you imagine the carnage if Mustangs were available with massive spinning blades of death on their noses?

I would totally steal the wheels off that if I could. I’m biased toward the graphite finish on the factory 5-spokes, especially with the black tri-bar pony emblem center caps (the ones with the Ford logo tend to peel off). Those window louvers aren’t cheap either, those are the ones that require you to remove the existing rear quarter glass to install but they look WAY better than the ugly stick-on style.

Pop’s ‘08 GT originally had the bright silver-finished wheels but the graphite wheel look so much better.

TBH it looks like the pedestrians won this round
